Composer, sound designer and producer Louay Zoghaib, better known as Monolith, ‘combines contemporary electronic techniques with traditional music practices’. Louay got influenced by many types of musical genres from his early years, which he mostly got from his parents. This sparked his interest for music and he later on discovered his fondness for the likes of early Techno, Acid and minimal electronica.
Based in Melbourne he uses his experience to ‘create a unique tapestry of sonic textures that appeals both on and off the dancefloor’. Recently he dropped his newest album ‘Ambiguous’ on Awesome Soundwave, run by Carl Cox and Christopher Coe. In our chat, Louay mentioned how ‘Alva Noto’ was a huge influence on his album and how they ‘treat sounds, displacing them, making them rigid and sharp is an oblique way to formulate music’.
Louay told us about his fascination for Jeff Mill’s productions, how Honeysmack mentored him throughout his career and about ‘one of the most versatile artists’, Speedy J.
